Top Scottsdale Yoga Studio's

First off, I would like to say welcome to my blog and thank you for being here, I am grateful. I am a Scottsdale local born and raised. I have been practicing yoga since October of 2020. I have spent a lot of time at each yoga studio I will be telling you about. I regularly jump back and forth between different yoga studios and typically stick with the same studio for months at a time, mostly because I like to mix things up.

Hot Yoga University

If you're in need of a yoga class where you leave feeling energized with positivity from the inspirational speech of the instructor + a full body tone up, I highly recommend this studio. In particular, owner/instructor Effie always has very inspirational speeches during class, you can feel her love and passion for you, her fellow yogis and yoga as a whole. This studio has a very large and VERY HOT, hot room (heated and humidified) and a small non-heated room for basic vinyasa and meditative/restorative classes. At H.Y.U. you can have a balanced yoga practice because almost on a daily basis you can choose between high energy asanas classes or calm meditative restorative classes. For high energy classes H.Y.U. offers non-heated vinyasa, heated vinyasa, heated hatha and a yoga + weights + cardio hybrid workout class that will be sure to slim you down and tone you up. Just make sure your hydrated if you're coming to a hot class here, they keep it HOT! Most yogis here are young adults 20-30 which gives a youthful energy to the studio.

PROS
  • multiple class types daily

  • young high energy

  • positivity

  • low cost at $15 a drop in

  • large, heated room

  • showers

CONS

  • typically, not much variation in asana sequences from day to day

  • basic yoga postures and sequences

Modern Yoga

Modern Yoga is the most technically advanced yoga studio I've been too. Here you will find no plain-Jane yoga. If you come to this studio, you will more than likely find yourself in posture you've never done or never approached the same way. The instruction to get into your asanas is always clear and very descriptive and precise. This studio also does hands on adjustments to assure your alignment is proper, so you are getting the most out of the posture and to advance your practice. This studio is all about proper alignment and advancing your practice. The classes are mostly flow classes aka vinyasa classes that are always changing and evolving so you won't ever get bored with the class. They also have some yin and ashtanga (more advanced than flow) classes.  The crowd here is mostly middle aged so you may get an 80's song here and there. Speaking of music, the owner and instructor John tends to play nontraditional music played during yoga, like rap and other pop songs. If that's to your liking great, if not, the other instructors tend to play more yogi-esk music.

PROS

  • non heated, so you can build up the heat from the inside out starting at the core

  • classes usually consist of advanced postures that will grow your practice

  • each instructor has the freedom to create their own unique class

  •  the instructors do hands on adjustments to help you get proper alignment

CONS

  • higher end cost $$

  • no Modern Yoga branded merch to show your pride

  • mostly middle-aged crowd (may be a pro to you)

  • low amount of yin/restorative classes

  • no sound bath classes

The Foundry

The foundry studio originally located in Old Town Scottsdale but now relocated to arcadia (close to O.T.S.) is a top studio for sure. They also have other location all around the valley and Flagstaff. It has large bright clean modern studios. The staff and regular attending yogis give off a feeling of community that you can be apart of. As far as challenging and advanced postures go, I would say this is an intermittent studio. They have mostly high energy classes, with a small amount of yin restorative type classes. The high energy classes consist of 26&2 (which could be as long as 90 minutes), hot flow, Pilates and HIT yoga combo classes. The crowd here is mostly young and some middle aged. They have a merch line partnered with Vuori to show your pride of your studio. Vuori is a high-end top yoga brand clothing company that make my favorite yoga shorts, check'em out!

PROS

  • Foundry x Vuori brand merch

  • clean large studios

  • a verity of different types of challenging classes

  • community vibe

  • multiple locations

CONS

  • higher end cost $$

  • no sound bath classes

  • low amount of yin/restorative classes

Blue Buddha Collective

This studio is a cool mom and daughter yoga/coffee shop. It's located off of McKellips and Scottsdale Road so it has a young crowd probably due to the low cost and close proximity to ASU. Thursday nights they have a special for college students and the classes are packed. The owner and instructor Karen is the previous owner of Hot Yoga University. They Have a hot Hatha, hot Flow and Yin/sound classes. I would say this studio is great for you if your relatively new to yoga or haven't advanced your practice particularly far. After your class you can enjoy a tea or coffee and check out all the items for sale like bracelets and t-shirts. There is also a bar next door if you feel like having a beer and on occasion there's a food truck in the parking lot. It could make for a pretty fun evening.

PROS

  • low end cost at $15 a drop in

  • cool mom and daughter shop

  • get your tea or coffee post yoga class

  • cool stuff for sale around the shop

  • blue buddha collective t-shirts

CONS

  • not a lot of studio space

  • classes stay consistently similar

I hope you enjoyed the review and that it helps you find a studio you love. Peace and love to you all.

Namaste,
